Face Planets is a reactive installation created with Aankit Patel at ITP. It was inspired by conversations with scientists at the NYU environmental fluid dynamics lab and is a proposal for a window display that communicates the lab's work to people on the street.
The dynamic display shows the user what a planet would look like if it was based on their own face's heat. We used a Flir thermal camera to capture the image and then ported it into processing, where fluid like particles respond to the pixel data and draw the person's abstract planet portrait. The user can capture the image of the planet when they like it, and all these images are gathered into this tumblr. Showcased at the ITP 2014 Spring Show.
